Annual Dinner 13 October 2009
- 14-01-2010
- Categorized in: Company Events

This year the Annual was at Glaziers Hall. 200 Liverymen, Freemen and guests joined together to celebrate the year and present the 2009 Sheriffs’ Awards. After a champagne reception, places were taken for dinner which was momentarily interrupted by three singing policemen who enlivened the occasion by handcuffing guests between Gilbert & Sullivan songs!
We were honoured by the presence of Sheriff Peter Cook, several Masters of other Livery Companies and representatives of our military affiliations.

Sheriff Peter Cook gave the Sheriff’s Bravery Award to Christopher Rothwell who, aged 16, apprehended a man who entered a night club at 3.00am armed with a machete and demanded the till takings. Christopher assisted in detaining the offender despite a serious injury to his hand from the flailing machete and, as the citation records, he acted with great physical and mental courage and maturity beyond his years. The first-ever Community Service Award was also given to Walter Roberts, who had inspired and arranged funding for high visibility vests for school children in the North West.

The Livery Hall at Glaziers’ Hall
The Sheriffs’ Awards were established in 2006 and are open to all the Blue Light Services, individual members of the public, the armed services and private organisations.
After a dinner of Seafood, Roast Beef and Lemon Tart, the Master reflected on why it had taken 800 years for a Security Livery Company to be formed in the City of London.
Air Commodore Steven Abbott, Commandant General of the RAF Regiment, presented The Worshipful Company with the magnificent Per Ardua Silver Bowl at the close of the evening.
